Job Description: Board of Directors
Job Title: Board of Director, Member of VOICES
Description of Responsibilities
The VOICES board is responsible for determining policy, approving the annual budget, raising funds to support the work of the organization, establishing organizational goals and maintaining quality leadership. Together with other members of the VOICES board, a board member is legally and morally responsible for all activities of the organization.
Specific Duties
1. Embrace VOICES mission statement, as follows: “VOICES mission is to strengthen individual voices for opportunity, income, child care, education, support and other low-income issues in our community. VOICES strongly believes low-income people are a necessary active part of finding effective solutions to poverty. Our collective voice creates positive change.”
2. Prepare for and attend all scheduled board meetings in accordance with VOICES’ by-laws.
3. Attend monthly community meetings.
4. Actively participate in the work of at least one board committee.
5. Actively participate in VOICES fundraising activities
6. At the direction of the Board and in accordance with personal and professional ethic, act as a spokesperson for VOICES.
Qualifications
1. A demonstrated interest and belief in the mission of VOICES.
2. Specific experience and/or knowledge of poverty and poverty issues.
3. Has sufficient time available to give to board membership activities.
4. Has attended at least three (3) VOICES community meetings and at least one (1) Board of Directors meeting.
Time Requirements: 6 – 10 hours per month
Term of Office: 3 years
Board Meeting Schedule: Fourth Monday of each month, time adjusts to members needs.
